Words that Drip-Drop from Base Words and Word Roots

Can be completed as a small-group, whole-group, or in two teams.




As a small-group or whole-group activity or mini-lesson:
1. Decide on a base word or a word root to highlight.
2. Write base word or root word on water pail, and think of as many forms as
possible.
3. Write the different forms on individual water drop; using the double water
drops to add a prefix or suffix to the word.

Played in two teams:
1. Divide water drops evenly between the two teams.
2. Decide on a base word or a word root to highlight.
3. Write the base word or word root on the water pail without students seeing
the word.
4. When both teams are ready display the word for teams to think of words that
are formed from the base word or word root.
5. Have students write the words on their water drops (using double water drops
to add a prefix or suffix to the formed word).
6. The first group to use all their water drops correctly and are able to explain
meaning of their words WINS!
