Cyril Dry Bread Ferguson

Cyril Dry Bread Ferguson, a native of Crooked Island, was exposed to the musical
influences of the church as well as old Bahamian folk melodies and rhythms at a very early age.
His rural background contributed to the diligent focus he placed on developing a musical career.
Fergusons migration to Freeport GrandBahama afforded him the opportunity to perform
at many local talent and case shows. This then eventually resulted in the formation of a band. His
band and he travelled the many Family Islands of the Bahamas as well as the Turks and Caicos,
performing many of his great hits. One of these included the song Dont Squeeze the Mango;
its compositional background was merely based on an experience had with a local Bimini
saleslady.
The music developed and performed by Dry Bread can be described as Bahamian
music that highlighted the rhythmic strums of the guitar, non-traditional drums and
goombay/calypso vibe. His work and style of music has gone on to influence more recent artists
such as Geno D and K.B.
With his endeavoring decision to return to the College of the Bahamas to enhance his
musical knowledge and skill, Dry Bread continues to be one of the few Bahamian artists who
have consistently contributed to the music repertoire of the Bahamas.
