A GIFT FROM INDIA: ASTRO-SCIENCE

Since thousands of years, people have believed in astrology and followed it as guidance in their lives.
No matter its an occasion of celebration or to mourn, humans have followed certain rules that
pertain to their own cultures. So did the Hindus follow JYOTISHA. Vedic astrology originally
comes to us from the Rig Veda, the oldest of the four Vedas, the spiritual Bible of ancient India. The
Vedas were an oral tradition passed down from family to family, generation to generation. These
works contain the spiritual teachings of Hinduism. Much later in their history the Vedas were put in
a written form, and so it is with Jyotisha as well.
The word light is indicative of knowledge, and darkness is a symbol of ignorance. Astrology lights
the path of human beings and provides better guidance in molding their future. Clearly, God created
Astrology for mankind. It enhances free will and assists in our ability to read "the signs" that he has
created for our evolving understanding of our life and purpose on Earth. We also find astrological
references abound in the great oral Epics of India, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, particularly
in the most famous portion of the Mahabharata, the Bhagavadgita.
Just because the modern pseudo scientist did not put a stamp of approval to it, we can not say
Astrology is not a science. The science is ever changing , finding new theories and opposing its own
doctrines. The scientists once declared that the Sun is revolving around the Earth. After Galileo
constructed the telescope, the same scientists said that the Earth is revolving round the Sun.
Whether the scientists found it or not, the truth is always same. Probably, the same scientist who is
criticizing Astrology today, will hug it tomorrow in reverence. The aim is not to encourage the
beliefs in astrological myths and superstitions but to make aware the present, the beauty behind
ancient astrological science whose foundation was laid by Indians.
