ACTIVITY TOPIC: Emotional Intelligence Survey
PARTICIPANTS NAME: Dana L. Sawyer 1. What were the significant learning points for you in this activity? Overall, I was not surprised by the results. Based on the survey, I am Optimal in interpersonal communications, life satisfactions, emotional self-awareness and awareness of others, resilience, intentionality, constructive discontent, outlook, compassion, personal power, integrated self, quality of life and relationship quotient. This all makes sense based on my clinical training and selection of social work as my initial field of training. I am Proficient in life pressures, emotional expressions, creativity, intuition, general health and optiomal performance. This past year has brought changes in both my personal and professional life, with new challenges emerging. I have met them head on and found ways to change those challenges to opportunities, with positive thinking and planful activities. My one area in which I am Vulnerable is the trust radius. At first this surprised me, as I see myself as an overall trusting person. After some thought though, it makes sense based on my having to acclimate to a new position, while learning staff proficiencies and systems-level nuances. I am feeling more confident and comfortable as time goes on, which lends itself to a more trustful outlook.
2. Which leadership characteristic(s) was/were enhanced and/or learned through this
activity? Explain. I learned that I need to delegate more effectively, which lends itself to creating opportunities for others while better managing my workload. Delegating will build trust and develop staff professionally. This exercise also made me realize that I have to take extra care with my intuitive thinking. I like to think the best of people and give them every opportunity to succeed, sometimes at the detriment to myself and others. I will now be more diligent in how I assess potential pitfalls and listen to internal cues that are telling me something is amiss.
