Inside each of our heads is perhaps the second most vital organ in the entire bodythe brain. From the brain protrudes the spinal cord which together make up the central nervous system (CNS); without them the body couldnt survive. From the CNS branches nerves and neurons, these can be thought of as pastors, teachers and leaders, men whom God uses to lead His people. The heart too is of vital importance. In fact, it and the brain are co-dependent; one cant naturally exist without the other. The heart cannot act on its own, it must receive commands from the brain to pump life through the body. The life of the body is the blood; the life of the church is the Holy Spirit. John Kimball, a biology professor, said that no cell is ever farther away than 50 m (.05 millimeters!) from a capillary. So must Christians be in close contact with the Spirit. Some Christians serve as kidneys, filtering out bad doctrines that have come into the church; some, sadly, infiltrate the body only to be cancerous and deadly; some serve as the voice, proclaiming the gospel with their lips; still others are the muscles, the hands, and the feetmen and women who, through their actions, proclaim Gods glorious love. Remember though, for the body to move, the Spirit must be flowing and Christians need to have constant communication with the head of the body. Each member has a designed purpose like none other, have you fulfilled yours? Zach Randall, 6/21/11
