Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Kindergarten!
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves as your childs
teachers for the 2014-2015 school year. We look forward to an exciting and educational
year with your child. We have planned a structured and enriched academic program. This
will be combined with many fun activities and positive experiences.

In an effort to keep your child physically safe, psychologically secure and promote
high expectations, your support is absolutely necessary. Please feel free to discuss any
concerns that may impact your childs performance in school. Our working together is
key to your child having a successful and rewarding year. We will be very happy to set up
a conference time with you to discuss your childs progress or any other concerns you may
have. Either call the school and leave us a message, or put a note in your childs
homework folder and we will return your call to schedule a conference.

The school day begins at 8:05 a.m. Please bring your child to the school auditorium
by 8:00 a.m. Being late has a negative impact on your childs education and will not be
tolerated. It is critical that your child arrive to school on time every single day. Our
lessons start promptly at 8:10 a.m. We are not allowed to accept students at the classroom
door after 8:15 a.m. You must bring them to the main office to get a blue late slip. If your
child arrives late to the classroom, please do not try to conference with us at this time, as
the children may need our undivided attention. It is also important that you pick up your
child on time outside the classroom door. If you arrive late you can pick up your child in
font of the main office.

It is important that you take a few moments to read all of the policies and procedures
that we use in our classroom. We will make every effort to keep you informed on what
happens through the school year via classroom correspondence and school notices.

Thanking you in advance for your cooperation. Together, we can make your childs
education the best it can be. We look forward to working with you and your child.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Darby
Ms. Goldstein

Homework

We will be sending homework home every Monday as a packet for the whole week.
Homework will be placed in the homework folder on MONDAY. We encourage you to
assist your child and to follow the daily homework schedule. It is important that the child
only do what is assigned for that night. This will help establish a daily homework routine
for your child. We will check the completed homework every morning upon arrival to the
classroom. Part of their homework is that an adult sign their packet nightly.

Very soon your child will be coming home with a bag of books for them to read at
home. This book bag MUST be returned EACH MORNING with your childs
homework.

We want all students to be successful so please make sure that your child has a
homework buddy (parent, guardian, older sibling, friend, or neighbor) to assist with the
homework. Please monitor that your child NOT the homework buddy is doing the work!
The homework assigned is not busy work. It aids in learning and is purposeful. The
homework routine helps your child take responsibility for themselves while fostering
independence.

Classroom Management Plan
Our classroom has a reward and recognition system for children demonstrating excellent
study habits and age appropriate behavior. It is a color-coded behavior chart, clearly
displayed in the classroom. Each child will have a pin with his/her name on it. Your
childs behavior is monitored very closely at all times and will be communicated to you
daily on the homework packet.

Students may get one verbal warning a day with no color change. After this one warning,
their pin is changed according to their behavior. If your child stays on Great Day at the
end of the day, he/she receives a stamp or sticker. If a student stays on Great Day for
five consecutive days he/she will be awarded a star student award on Friday.

Please note that a phone call will accompany students consistent inappropriate behavior.
We will also provide your child with an opportunity to improve upon behavior throughout
the school day. If your child receives a color change at any time during the day, he/she
will have the remainder of the day to move back to Great Day. Please ask your child
daily what color they were on for that day.
