For the sixth year in a row Starbucks has made the Worlds most ethical companies list
through Ethisphere.com. This speaks volumes for global company, which started in 1971 and
has expanded to over 60 countries and almost 20,000 stores. This nationally traded company,
which is traded as SBUX on the NASDAQ as a coffee house. The founders of Starbucks are
Jerry Baldwin, Gordon Bowker and Zev Siegl who take pride in being on the list of worlds most
ethical companies.
Starbucks believes that conducting business ethically is one of the reasons it is such a
successful company. The companies Ethics and Compliance programs is one that supports the
Starbucks mission statement, which states Our mission: to inspire and nurture the human spirit
one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time. In the fiscal year 2011 Starbucks report
Business Ethics and Compliance, 76% of concerns were based on day-to-day operations such as
pay, benefits, disciplinary actions. 1% were Customer Relations reported by partners of
customers and obtained by helpline numbers. 9% of issues were Safety and Security issues and
14% of issues were Business Practices such as corporate police questions and concerns.
The Standard of Business Conduct is a written overview of the legal and ethical standards
that Starbucks employees are expected to adhere to. It offers various modes for compliance
techniques in its corporation. Techniques that employees can use to ensure ethical behavior are
the ethics and compliance helpline, the Starbucks Standards of Business Conduct. There are also
online reports to submit and review if you feel that you have a concerns that need to be voiced.
