Camera Movement

L/O: To understand the different types of camera movements.

Camera Movement Description

Purpose
(This is often used to)
Tracking






Very simple moving of the camera.
Backwards or forwards. It often uses
a dolly.
Tracking in draws the audience into the action.
Tracking out shows that the scene is finished, and it
is time to move on.
Tilt






A simple movement of the camera
upward or downward. Can be from a
point of view shot.
It is to make a sense of power.
Down= inferiority
Up= superior
Zoom






Zoom can be used as an alternative
of a tracking shot. Creates
movement into or away from
character.
To draw the audiences attention on to certain
objects, places or people.
Arc






The camera moves either a full or
semi circle around the character.
Gives the audience a full view of the character or to
show several peoples reactions.
Crane






Attaching the camera to a crane. It
can be a fixed crane shot or a
moving crane shot. Either is very
high.
To follow the action vertically and to see the whole
picture. As the audience is watching as a spectator.
Panning






Camera is mounted on a tripod and
moved side to side. The camera does
not move from its spot.
Used for a point of view shot.
