PROCEDURE 1. Create a data chart to record your results. Be sure to include what it is you are measuring and appropriate units. 2. Unwrap one piece of bubble gum and use the triple beam balance and a piece of wax paper to determine its mass. Be sure to subtract the mass of the wax paper before entering the number in your data table. 3. Chew the gum for 1 minute and then measure the mass again. Be fore to subtract the mass of the wax paper before entering the number in your data table. 4. Repeat step 3 until your reach 5 minutes in total. 5. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for the other 2 gum samples.
ANALYSIS QUESTIONS 1. Create a graph to show the change in mass of each gum sample over the 5 minute time period. Be sure to include a title for your graph, as well as labels and units for each graph axis. (Hint: what type of graph illustrates change? Think about this or else you will wind up re-doing your graph) 2. Determine the amount of sugar present in each gum sample: Sample Start Mass (g) End Mass (g) Change in Mass (g) Change in mass/ Start Mass Percentage of Sugar
3. Rank the 3 Gum Samples from greatest to least sugar.
4. Rank the 3 gum samples in order from your favorite to your least favorite.
5. Describe the relationship (if any) between the list you created in question 3 and the one in question 4
