JAMESTOWN ESSAY

In this essay I am going to explain how I would manage the trip to the New World, the kind
of people I would send, the type of government, the choice of the location, the plans for the
growth of the settlement.
If I would be James I, I would send to the new world doctors, Renaissance Scientists,
experienced travelers, male and female harvests, farmers, masons, carpenters and
blacksmiths. Also, people that would like to know how the new continent is, like a tour.
The supplies that would have been needed are aid for ill or wounded people, potable
water, food, weapons, seeds, animals and clothing. Also, an astrolabe and a compass
The type of government would be a kind of colonial government, where the most wisely
and educated people lead the future and face the problems of the settlement, in
representation of the king or queen. This is a good choice because the monarch can
finance the trip and the expenses.
The choice of location would leave like that, in the same place, but with a little bit of
changes. When they came, they were in search of gold and silver instead of building
homes and planting crops. The error in this selection was that they were unaware of the
malaria in the mosquitoes, the bad conditions of the water and the bad relations with the
Native Americans. But the advantage of this place was the protection against the Native
Americans and from the river they could see if other ships came near them.
The plans of growth would be firstly the construction of houses and its properly furniture.
Make treats with the Native Americans to be in peace and join forces; also trade with
them. Know and study the animals and crops of the region. Create farms to raise animals,
planting and harvesting. Boil the water and avoid mosquitoes. Also, learn from the Native
Americans about medicinal plants, so the doctors can help the ill people from the available
plants of the region. And finally explore more, to search better places to live and find
precious metals.
