Operation
An ele"trode /usuall) lead0 !s loered don the ell and an ele"tr!"al $otent!al !s
reg!stered at d!%erent $o!nts !n the hole !th res$e"t to surfa"e ele"trode.
Therefore SP !s a re"ord!ng of the d!%eren"e !n $otent!al of a mo#ea&le ele"trode
!n a &orehole and a f1ed ele"trode on the surfa"e. In order to re"ord a $otent!al
the hole must "onta!n "ondu"t!#e mud2 as !t "annot &e re"orded !n a!r or o!l3&ase
mud. Logg!ng rate !s a$$ro1!matel) 4'((m $er hour and re"ord!ngs are
"ont!nuous.

Operation
Some Density/Neutron combinations are pad mounted devices and centered in the borehole. This
provides two caliper readings orthogonal to each other. The Neutron caliper has a stronger spring than
the Density, and will measure the largest part of any oval borehole. The pad device ensures a better
borehole contact for Neutron measurements and therefore requires less corrections. Some Neutron tools
use a source that is activated electronically. In this way the tool emits Neutrons only when it is switched
!N while downhole at the start and finish of logging.
