Stick It To Em!
The Gecko
Previous Theory
Scientists believed that geckos stuck to
seemingly flat and slippery surfaces due to
van der Waals force.
Van der Waals force is the natural
interaction between molecules that causes
them to attract each other
Geckos use this concept when the tiny hairs
on their feet (spatulae) cling to a window
New Evidence
Electrostatic theory seemingly disproven by
W.D Dellit in 1934 by X-Ray
Recent study finds that gecko feet stick twice
as strong to one material that should have
been the same
Foot + charged, polymer - charged

What makes this important
With this new discovery we can possibly make
New Climbing Equipment
New adhesives
New army gear
Counters
Some scientists think that electrostatic forces
may play a role, but arent the dominant
force.
Reason is that geckos can adhere to surfaces
where electric charges dont accumulate,
such as bare steel or underwater.
