Tim Burton, an American director and stop-
motion artist, is a man that is seen as a pioneer
of stop-motion animation and has created some
of the worlds most popular productions for
audiences of all ages. This pioneer typically
bases his work on around the idea of darkness
and creates his own characters for his
productions which are normally models/puppets.
Tim Burton is most popular for his productions
of: Beetlejuice, A ightmare Before !hristmas,
!orpse Bride and "rankenstein, all of which are
dark, #othic productions created by the pioneer
himself. Burton goes against typical
e$pectations of animation and rebels against the
first rule of animation: %eyes for expression& and
he shows this in his production A ightmare
Before !hristmas.
Burton uses a lot of music and singing in his
productions alongside arm/hand gestures to
personify his fictional characters. Burton
originally worked with 'isney and studied
cel animation with (ohn )asseter *Toy +tory,
!ars,, but disagreed with their methods and
e-er since began working on his own. Tim
Burton is known as a pioneer for his uni.ue
response to conte$t in his productions and
his specific dissection of stop-motion
animation in order to make his work his own,
which is what makes him so different from
other stop-animation artist/directors.
