Types of computers:

Computers can be divided into the following types on the basis of their working.
1: Analog Computers.
An analog computer does not operate digital signals. It recognizes data as a
continuous measurement of a physical property. Analog computers are difficult to operate
and use. Its output is usually displayed on a meter and graphs. Voltage, pressure, speed
and temperature are some physical properties that can be measured in this way. Analog
computer has low memory and fewer functions. It is usually built for special purposes.
Analog computers are mainly used in the field of engineering and medicine.
Examples:
1. Analog clock measures time by the distance of the hands of of a clock around a
dial.
. !he speed of the car is measured by speedometer.
". !hermometer measures the length of a mercury column.
2: Digital Computers.
A digital computer works with digits. #verything is described in two states i.e.
either $% or $&&. !he number 1 represents $% and ' represents $&& state. It operates
by counting numbers or digits and gives output in digits.
!he digital computers are very fast. !hey can be programmed to perform
mathematical calculations, compare values etc. !hese computers store results in digital
format. (igital computers are manufactured in a wide variety of sizes, speed and
capabilities. !hey have big memory. (igital computers are commonly used in offices and
educational institutes.
Examples:
1. (igital watches are a good e)ample of digital computer.
. *core +oard that directly counts discrete value.
3: Hybrid Computers:
A hybrid computer is a combination of both analog and digital computers. *ome
part of processing is done on analog computer and some part on digital computer.
A hybrid computer combines the best characteristics of both the analog and digital
computer. It can accept data in both analog and digital.
Examples:
1. ,etrol pump machine is a best e)ample hybrid computers
. #C- electrocardiogram
