Introduction

In order for fish to survive, grow abd reproduce, they need to feed on organic materials such as
plants, other animals, or prepared feeds containing palnt and/or animal material. It is therefore
most important to ensure that your fish get the food they rquire, both in quality and in
quantity. There are three types of food used in fish ponds:

Natural food
Supplementary feed
Complete feed

Phytoplankton
Marine phytoplankton (greek for plant wanderes) are microscopic single-celled
plantlike organism that include diatoms, dianoflaglletes, coccolithophorids, green algae,
and cyanobacteria ( formerly known as blue-green algae ). The growth of these
organism, which photosynthesis light, depends on a delicate balance between nutrient
enrichment by vertical mixing, often limited by the availablility o nitrogen, and the
availability of light. Diatoms are one-celled protists with patterned glass coverings. Each
glass, or silicon dioxide (SiO
2
), box is ornamented with species-specific designs, making
them popular with microscopists.

Zooplankton
Zooplankton are animal-like forms of plankton. Among these are the larval and adult
forms of some animal species and certain protozoa. During the temporary larval stages,
some benthic and nektonic animals appear quite different from the adults into which
they mature. These immature animals are able to populate new areas by drifting with
the currents.

Objective

1. Observed organism ( phytoplankton and zooplankton) under dissecting and
compound microscopes in freshwater and marine water samples (if available)
2. Draw and identify the specimen (refer reference are given)
3. Compare which organism (phytoplankton and zooplankton) are easy to found in
freshwater or marine water
4. Knowing the name of and form the species
5. lists the species found .
