Britannica really knows their audience. This online encyclopedia for elementary school is
basic, primary, and perfect for the young learner. The layout is extremely simple with
pleasing colors and inviting graphics. The content is heavy on image, with supplementing text
that is clear and easy to discern. The verbiage is simple and on grade level.
This elementary school version of Britannica provides many of the same features as that of
the middle school version. It offers educators a place to store their content, lesson plan
builder, lesson browser, curriculum standards browse, and tutorials, guides, and training.
The student portal has picture clouds as jump-offs for the seven basic topics: Articles,
Media, Animal Kingdom, World Atlas, Compare Countries, Tour the U.S.A., and Learning
Games. The categories have been pared down to just the essentials, and there is a space for
the students to store their content. Just enough.
Grades: 1-5. Subject(s): All. Overall rating: 8
