This year we are going to be taking a "road trip" across America to learn about the different kinds of music

that have been created in this great country of ours. Our


trip will last until the end of April. At each city or attraction you will be able to learn about a different genre of American music or focus on developing different
aspects of your own musical abilities, but most importantly, we want you to have fun!
ROAD RULES:
1. You can visit up to 3 cities or attractions each week.
2. If you've enjoyed visiting a city or attraction, you may visit more than once.
3. Places to visit:
A. Cities:
1. New York City-The music of Broadway
2. Cleveland-The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
3. Nashville-Country music
4. Memphis-The music of Elvis
5. New Orleans-Jazz
6. St. Louis-Blues
7. Detroit-The music of Motown
8. Hollywood-Movie music
9. Orlando-Disney music
B. Attractions:
1. The Empire State Building-Scales, chords, warm-ups and exercises
2. The Grand Canyon-Sight Reading
3. The Indy 500-Speed Reading note names
4. The Rocky Mountains-Theory and Terms
5. The Mississippi River-Rhythm
C. Performance Venues (You will need to find a performance opportunity, not including group lessons, Midnight Madness and recitals):
1. The Chicago Theatre
2. Carnegie Hall
3. The Hollywood Bowl
4. The Boston Opera House
5. The Grand Ole Opry
D. Gas Stations-"Re-Fuel" by completing your practicing goals (Must visit all 15)
E. Rest Areas-Give your parents a "rest" by not complaining about practicing for the week (Must be visited the same week as Gas Stations and must visit all 15)
4. Every good road trip needs some good music, so complete a "playlist" of songs to listen to each week that you visit a city. If possible, choose songs to go along
with the city you're visiting.
5. Be sure to complete all assignments and have all forms filled out and kept in your folder each week so your teacher can keep track of your progress. And bring
your folder to all of your lessons!
