Questions to the Mayor from Cllr Jenny Smith Public Health, Bristol
Under the Health and Social Care (HSC) Act of 2012 local authorities such as Bristol were given leadership and financial responsibilities for public health at local level.
The overall intention was to move public health into Local Authorities in order to take advantage of existing structures and local knowledge of communities gained over many years.
This was aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of Bristol citizens especially by improving the health of Bristols poorest faster.
This responsibility was supported by a ring-fenced public health grant, which has since been added to.
1. Could Council be provided with a list of where this money has been placed both internally in our own services and externally with other independent organisations?
2. Is there any of this finance not as yet used, as there was a concern by the previous Scrutiny Committee that should this occur the Government might take this finance back?
