NOVEMBER 2009

Dates to Remember:
Pastor’s Letter
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ at Tremont Temple! November 14 - 15, 2009 ~
Missions Conference
May the Peace and Joy of Christ be with you wherever you are and in whatever
mission you are involved! Thanksgiving Dinner -
It gives me great joy to write to you as the new pastor of Tremont Temple
Chipman Hall, 6th flr.
Baptist Church. Of course, I am the “Interim”, but the Church Council feels that
at this stage in the life of TTBC, it is better simply to be called “Pastor.” November 26, 2009 ~ 12
(noon) - 2 pm
As retired Baptist World Alliance General Secretary, I come to this position
with much enthusiasm. We need a Baptist witness in Boston! We need an
evangelical Baptist witness in Boston! Boston needs to hear the Gospel, and
how shall they hear if there is no one to tell the Good News?
Each of you is called to be on a mission with Christ! It is my fervent prayer and
hope that we will get beyond our quarreling and divisions and concentrate on our
living Lord, Jesus Christ!
Will you pray with me for renewal and for healing, for forgiveness and
reconciliation?
Will you make an effort to forget the past and look unto Jesus, the pioneer and
author of our faith?

Boston journalists have asked me, “What are your goals for Tremont Temple
Baptist Church?” Let me enumerate them in more detail for you, our church
members and friends:

1. Goal number one is that we overcome our divisions and concentrate on

reconciliation and peacemaking amongst ourselves. This is possible only as we
commit ourselves anew to Jesus Christ as the ruler of our lives, personally and
collectively.

2. Our goal must be to fill the empty seats, not by catchy phrases or Madison
Ave. techniques, but by the empowering of the Holy Spirit. We need to become Inside this issue:
a Holy Spirit-renewed-for-mission church!
Pastors’ Letter 1-2
3. “Each one, teach one” was the motto of Frank Laubach, the great missionary
educationalist in India. Our goal at TTBC must be: “Each one, reach one!” Pastoral Care 3
If each of you would pray for your neighbor, if each of you would bring one
new person every month, then we might experience revival and growth.

4. How can we become a missionary church if we do not pray? The Church in
Korea grows because every morning thousands of Christians come together at November Birthdays 3
5:00a.m. for prayer. God has blessed their supplications and made Korea one of
the great missionary countries of the world! The Korean Church sends out about Calendar 4
114,000 missionaries whereas the North American Church sends out about
120,000….but we are five times more members here in the USA! Let’s begin
to pray for renewal every day! I am pleased that our prayer meeting on
Wednesday has grown from 10 to 30. More of you need to come…..but wherever
you are, you can pray for revival! Will you do that, please!

5. Reconciliation: I believe we are on the road to reconciliation. I have been very Baptist Church
moved to hear people ask forgiveness of one another. That is a good beginning. I have
been preaching on Paul’s first letter to the Corinthian Christians. The Apostle Paul insists
that they stop their divisions by asking, “Is Christ Divided?” Of course not! Not then or
not now! Therefore, pray and work for reconciliation. Be a joyful Christian! Greet someone SAVE THE DATES!
that you have not greeted before. Our church needs to be friendly to all guests and visitors.
Let’s welcome everyone with a smile and with joy! Many of you have left in anger and TTBC
sorrow. Now is the time to come back and participate in God’s great love and acceptance!
Missions Conference
6. Finally, our goal must be to seek the will of God in our collective lives. What is God
saying to us after these days of darkness and drought? Is God preparing us for revival and
renewal? Is Christ pleased with your devotion and attempts at reconciliation? Is the Holy
Spirit burning our hearts to become a missionary people right here at home?
The great missionary conference in Mexico City in 1963 proclaimed a motto: “Mission
in Six Continents.” What that means is that no longer must we think of missions as North November 14 - 15, 2009
America sending out missionaries to the poor pagans, but rather that every country has
become a mission field. 60% of the world’s Christians are in the Southern Hemisphere.
We need to be re-evangelized in the USA. We have become a pagan country. We need
revival and a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in the Church!
Theme:
To that end we are holding a: Missions Conference November 14 -15, 2009.
“Renewal for Missions”
Our guest preacher and leader will be Dr. Roger Fredrikson, former president of the
American Baptist Churches. He is a reconciler, having been pastor at FBC Wichita,
Kansas, and FBC Sioux Falls, SD. Dr. Fredrikson is a deeply spiritual man who is
concerned about renewal in our churches nationwide.
Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning will be dedicated to missions and your role in it!
After worship on Sunday morning, we will conclude with a great banquet for missions.
Save the dates! Put those dates on your calendar now!
Speaker:
November 14 - 15, 2009
Dr. Fredrikson will meet with the TTBC Council and staff, only, on Friday evening, Dr. Roger Fredrikson
November 13th.

Please pray for Tremont Temple Baptist Church. Pray for unity, unity, unity! I know from
experience around the world that God blesses united churches and united conventions.
Only as we unite around Jesus Christ will we grow and become a missionary people.
Please help us become that kind of people! We love you in Jesus Christ and pray for your
encouragement and support!

Yours in the Joy of Christ,

Denton Lotz, Pastor TTBC
