Instruction Format
An instruction is a binary pattern designed inside a microprocessor to
perform a specifc function. Te entire group of instruction ca!!ed instruction sets.
It is an " bit de#ice it can perform 2$% operations. An instruction is a command
to perform a gi#en tas& on specified data. 'ac instruction as 2 parts ( one is
te tas& to be performed ca!!ed opcode and te second is data ca!!ed operand.
In de#e!oping a program( )e do not use te instruction in binary form
because it is di*cu!t for us to dea! )it a !arge group of numbers and easy to
ma&e mista&e.Tus( assemb!y !anguage is used to simp!ify te program
de#e!opment. In assemb!y !anguage( eac instruction is represented by
mnemonic tat is an abbre#iation of instruction. '#ery instruction as its o)n
mnemonic and binary code Te operand can be specifed in #arious !i&e "+,% bit
data( a register( a memory !ocation. In some instructions te operand is imp!icit.
Instructions are a!so c!assifed into 3 groups according to byte si-e. Tey
are
,. , byte instructions
2. 2 byte instructions
3. 3 byte instructions
