Ideally, I would like to start my career immediately following my undergraduate

graduation. I want to delve into the field of civil engineering and solve real world
problems as soon as possible. I plan to take Part A of the New York State Professional
Engineering Exam, Fundamentals of Engineering (FE). I will take this exam either in
April of 2015, before graduation, or in October 2015, since these are the only two months
in which the exam is given. Upon completing and passing Part A, I will be eligible to
take Part B, Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE), after four years of work
experience. After completing Part B, I will be a licensed professional engineer in the
state of New York. If applicable, I will pursue a professional engineering license for
other states in North America.
It is my goal to help fix Americas deteriorating infrastructure. I specifically wish
to remedy crumbling roadways and structures in urban environments, since it is the
metropolitan jungle of New York City that has inspired me to solve transportation and
urban planning problems.
Five years after graduating, I see myself either in school pursuing a Masters
degree or working for an engineering firm. In five years, I will extend my profession
overseas, and work on urbanization projects in developing countries such as India or
Thailand. If we want to continue to live on this Earth, I believe that we must restructure
our cities to make them more sustainable. The field of sustainable design and
engineering is growing, and it will soon become a building necessity. My ultimate career
goal is to mesh sustainable technology with civil engineering. I want to build
infrastructure that has a minimal negative impact on the environment, so that we can live
in a more sustainable world.
