The Relation of Pregnant Womens Obedience in Consuming Iron Tablets with
Anemia Incident in Kebondalem Village, Pemalang Sub District, Pemalang.

ABSTRACT

Anemia in pregnancy is a seriously problem because of the high maternal
mortality associated with anemia. Most anemia in pregnancy is caused by iron
deficiency. This study aims to determine the relation of consuming iron tablets by
pregnant women with Anemia incident.
This research used descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach. The
samples were pregnant women whith pregnancy age > 28 weeks on 35 respondents.
The obedience was measured by using a questionnaire, the incidence of anemia was
obtained by measuring the hemoglobin concentration by using Hb Sahli.
The research showed the low obedience of pregnant women in consuming
iron tablets. The research results obtained 28,6% obedient and 71,4% disobedient,
while the incident of anemia was 60% and non anemia 40%. Based on the statistical
test with Chi-Square, there was a relation between consuming iron tablets by
pregnant women with anemia incident in Kebondalem Village, Pemalang Sub
District, Pemalang with (p value=0,001).
To avoid anemia, pregnant women should take iron tablets every day as
recommended by health personnel and improve the knowledge about iron tablets and
anemia. Whereas health workers should provide information about iron tablets and
monitor pregnant women in consuming iron tablets.
