Baines Middle School

Reassessment Procedure
Baines Middle School adheres to the reassessment procedure as outlined in district policy EIA. That
procedure states: The decision as to how to reassess objectives that are re-taught is the option of the
classroom teacher. However, there must be evidence that reassessment has occurred.
BMS Reassessment Procedure
Students that received a failing grade on a major assessment must retest
Students earning between a 70 and a 75 have the option to retest.
The retest may include items from all objectives covered on the original assessment or only
those objectives not mastered by the student.
The reassessment does not have to be the exact assessment as the original; however, it will be
at the same difficulty level as the original.
The student notifies the teacher that he or she wants to be reassessed (for those scoring
between a 70 and a 75).
In order to retest, a student must correct all items missed on the original assessment, if
applicable.
The corrections, re-teaching, and reassessment must be completed before the next major
assessment in the subject at hand.
A reassessment date, time, and location will be agreed upon by the student, teacher, and
parent.
The highest grade that may be earned on a retest is a 75.
Students may only be reassessed once for a given assessment.
This procedure applies only to assessments that are considered to be major grades.
This procedure does not apply to projects that students had multiple days or weeks to
complete.
This procedure does not apply to assignments that received zeroes based on academic
dishonesty.
This procedure does not apply to semester exams.
In classes that utilize progressive testing, students can use this procedure only for the most
recent assessment
