COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY
OF MULTIPLICATION

Multiplication properties can be
used to simplify calculations.

A property can simply be defined
as a math law or math rule.
COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY
OF MULTIPLICATION
The Commutative Property of Multiplication says
Factors: Any two numbers multiplied together to
find a product.
Product: The answer to a multiplication problem.
Any two factors multiplied in any
order will give the same product.
4 x 3 = 12
Factors: Any two numbers multiplied together
to find a product.
Product: The answer to a multiplication problem.
FACTOR FACTOR PRODUCT
Any two factors multiplied in any order will
give the same product

is a fancy way of saying

Two numbers can be multiplied in any order
and the answer will still be the same.

or

4 x 3 = 12 is the same as 3 x 4 = 12

The Commutative Property says that any two
factors multiplied in any order will give the same
product.

So

4 x 3 = 12 is the same as 3 x 4 = 12

And since those two factors can be multiplied in
any order for the answer

4 x 3 = 3 x 4

How can I use the
Commutative Property?

The Commutative Property allows you to find the product
of 8 x 5 without multiplying if you know that 5 x 8 = 40.

Lets see how this works!

How can I use the
Commutative Property?
What does 5 x 8 equal?
I know that 8 x 5 = 40
So
If 8 x 5 = 40
Then
Commutative Property says
5 x 8 must equal 40!
8x5=5x8
