Literary Language

A biography or an autobiography tells about

important events in someones life. Authors often
use literary language to help readers understand
these events. Similes, metaphors, personification
and repetition are kinds of literary language.

Simile compares two unlike things and begins with
like or as

Metaphor compares unlike things, but does not
include like or as

Personification gives human qualities to nonhuman
things

Repetition repeating of a word or phrase, creates
rhythm and draws attention to certain
ideas
