1.

Protista- a group of one-celled organisms with well-defined nuclei that are not classified as plants, animals, or
fungi
2. Eubacteria- a kingdom that contains all prokaryotes except Archaebacteria
3. Archaebacteria- a kingdom made up of bacteria that live in extreme environments; known as extremeophiles
4. Fungi- a kingdom made up of nongreen, eukaryotic organisms that have no means of movement, reproduce
using spores, and get food by breaking down substances in their surroundings and absorbing the nutrients
(decomposing)
5. Plantae- a kingdom made up of complex, multicellular organisms that are usually green, have cells walls made
of cellulose, cannot move around, and use the suns energy to make sugar by photosynthesis
6. Animalia- a kingdom made up of complex, multicellular organisms that lack cell walls, can usually move around,
and quickly respond to their environment
7. Eukaryote- an organism made up of cells that have a nucleus enclosed by a membrane; includes animalia,
plantae, fungi, and Protista, but not archaebacteria and eubacteria
8. Prokaryote- an organism that consists of a single cell that does not have a nucleus
9. Decomposer- an organism that gets energy by breaking down the remains of dead organisms or animal wastes
and consuming or absorbing the nutrients
10. Scavenger- omnivores that eat dead plants and animals
11. Autotroph- another term for plants; consumes energy that it produces through photosynthesis
12. Heterotroph- an organism that gets food by eating other organisms or their byproducts and that cannot make
organic compounds from inorganic materials
13. Producer- an organism that can make its own food by using energy from its surroundings
14. Consumer- an organism that eats other organisms or organic matter
15. Chitin- composes the cell walls of fungi
16. Cellulose- a complex sugar that most animals cant digest; composes the cell walls of plants
17. Photosynthesis- The process by which chlorophyll containing cells use energy from the sun to combine water
and carbon dioxide to produce glucose and to release oxygen as a byproduct
18. Omnivore- an organism that eats both flesh (meat) and plant matter
19. Carnivore- any flesh (meat) eating organism
20. Herbivore- Any plant eating organism
