Attitudes towards Reuse, Reduce and Recycle Activities: a case study among the Senior Citizens in
Selected Area :.
Research Objectives
#he inclusive ob3ective of this research is to underwrite to quantum of $nowledge that occurs in the area of environmental
studies. Precisel(' among other things are to determine attitude of the senior citi4ens toward reuse' reduce and rec(cle
activities 5 determine the effect of demographic variables on attitude towards these three ! r6s activities 5 e7amine the various
items in !r6s5 the appropriate strategies to improve !r6s5 reasons for !r6s and the sources of !r6s information.

#he research intends to e7plore the senior citi4ens attitude toward reuse'reduce and rec(cle activities in ( )
8nterestingl(' no such research was conducted before in the stud( area and this research fills in the gap in literature. #he
findings of the research ma( give better insights of the theories on environmental sustainabilit(. #he findings also offer
concerned authorities sufficient evidence on approaches to develop reuse'reduce and rec(cling behaviour for the societ( later
on. At one point' the findings can be a platform for future reference material in the area of environmental studies.
#he research questions for the stud( are as follows9
:hat are the attitudes of the senior citi4ens towards !r6s activities ; reuse' reduce and rec(cle
:hat are the factors influence the senior citi4ens attitude towards !r6s activities& reuse'reduce and rec(cling<
:hat are the right strategies to improve !r activities among the senior citi4ens<
=ow does demograph( in selected area affect the !>6s activities<
#he stud( is conducted in five 4ones of the state (name it ) involving the senior citi4ens from both rural and urban
areas. 8t loo$s at whether certain demographic variables such as age range' race and gender have an effect on attitude towards
!>6s activities ;>euse'reduce and rec(cle activities.

#he research focus on the surve( to see respondents attitude towards waste within the household as the management of such
waste has not been a problem. #he senior citi4ens spend most of the time at home and engage themselves to litters which some
are non biodegradable and might pose ha4ards to the life of the people and surrounding as well.
?ethodolog( and sampling
#he population of ?ala(sia stands at over 1@ million in 1,11 (http9AAwww.statistics.gov.m(AportalAinde7.php<langBen ).
?ala(siaCs population comprises man( ethnic groups' with the ?ala(s at around 5,.+- ' followed b( 1!.D- of *hinese
descent' and appro7imatel( D.1- is 8ndian descent and the remaining are others at 1@.@ -. #he population distribution is
highl( uneven' with some 1, million residents concentrated in Peninsula ?ala(sia and D,- of the population is urban. )ue to
the Eritish6s polic( that coloni4ed the countr( before some tabulations of the people are still ethnical based. :hen it comes to
senior citi4ens' this group is referred to those who are F5 (ears and above. #he( form 5- of the whole population with ++.1-
or 51FGFD males compared to 55.G- or FFD@!1 females. Prior to this' this stud( is done b( loo$ing at the ratio of the races so it
can mirror the real number of population even not to the utmost. #he sample for the stud( is based on convenience and ma(
not necessaril( be representative of all the senior citi4ens. #wo important notions to be noted involving the samplings are that
the senior citi4ens in this stud( are sound and health( and sta( at home. #he results from the senior citi4ens who are bedridden
and sta( at the old fol$ homes might be different.
