Performance management is a process by which
managers and employees work together to plan, monitor
and review an employees work objectives and overall
contribution to the organization.

360 degree appraisal has four integral
components:
Self appraisal
Superiors appraisal
Subordinates appraisal
Peer appraisal.

Advantages of 360 Degree Appraisal
Improve credibility of performance appraisal.

The mix of ideas can give a more accurate assessment.

People who undervalue themselves are often motivated
by feedback from others.

If more staff takes part in the process of performance
appraisal, the organizational culture of the company will
become more honest.


Disadvantages of 360 Degree
Appraisal
Taking a lot of time, and being complex in
administration.

There is requirement for training and important effort in
order to achieve efficient working.

It will be very hard to figure out the results.

Feedback can be useless if it is not carefully and
smoothly dealt.

BARS
(Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scale)
Contains 5 10 Vertical scales for each job
dimensions.

Developed by both Subordinates and
Managers.

Participants are Asked to review.


Advantages & Disadvantages of
BARS
Advantages:
Person outside HR department participate with
HR staff in development.
Employee participation can lead to greater
acceptance of the performance appraisal
process.
Disadvantages:
Requires time & effort to develop.
Scales are specific to particular job, thus may not
be applied to others.
