Chapter 2 Vocabulary

1. Solvent- its whats doing the dissolving

2. Solution- a mixture made up of a solvent and a solute
3. Ions- ions are molecules that dont have full valence shells
4. Concentration- the ratio of the solute to the solvent
5. Electron- electrons are negatively charged particles
6. Solute- it is whats being dissolved and broken down
7. Cohesion- water sticks to water
8. Adhesion- water sticks to other stuff
9. Molecule- it is substances made up of one or more atoms
10. Hydrogen bond- a bond between the molecules
11. Atom- smallest unit of matter
12. Element- matter that is able to exist by only being made of
one atom
13. Polar molecule- polar molecules have + and - regions
14. Valence shell- rings surrounding the nucleus of an atom on
which electrons travel
15. Neutron- neutrons are what have a neutral charge
16. Proton- protons have positive charges
