Major Soap Conventions

They have multi-strand narratives, which means that they have lots of
stories going on at once.
They are set in a central location e.g. Corrie is set in Manchester and
Hollyoaks in Chester.
Each episode is 23-27 minutes long.
They have many different characters who have stereotypes attached to
them. For example from their clothing/accent.
Overlapping narratives
Open ended narratives/cliff-hangers, so that they audience watches the
next episode to see what happens.
Strong female characters e.g. Tracy Barlow from Corrie
Domestic Sets
They usually have a social hub, for example in Corrie it is the Rovers
Return and in Emmerdale it is the Woolpack.
The storylines are on-going and continuous.
Have an omnibus at the end of the week, which shows all the episodes
from that week in case any of the audience has missed any.
