To Whom It May Concern:
It is my pleasure to introduce you to Geordan Olsen, a practicum student who
completed her PSll round with the University of Lethbridge here at St. Francis.
She taught a wide range of Drama courses and also Religion 7.
In observing her classes and having conversations with Geordan, I have really
come to appreciate her passion for the performing arts, and how that translates
into her work with youth. She is very enthusiastic to see the potential in all
students, and respects their various comfort levels in performance situations.
Geordan is very skilled in monitoring student progress, especially as they work
in groups, and in giving formative feedback that will have them more
performance-ready than without.
Another of Geordan's strengths that emerged in her time here is her ability to
adapt to meet student interests in the context of the curriculum. For example, a
group of very physical boys were keenly interested in a fight chorea
assignment that allowed them to be physical and imagine storylines that
appealed to them; they were not confined to more conventional approaches to
movement such as dance or stage directions. This type of flexibility is key in
working with junior high students who may not have chosen a performance
class, but want to still do their best.
Geordan is a patient and positive teacher who shows interest in expanding her
teaching practice, including professional learning around inclusion,
differentiation and merging curriculums to support student engagement.
She will be a fine teacher and I am happy to report that she has made a lasting
impression on the staff and students here at St. Francis. We wish her all the
best in her future teaching endeavours.
