Instructions to using Margins, Tabs, Indents, and Rulers

Introduction
The point of these instructions are to teach the user how to use features of Word (Margins,
Tabs, Indents, and Rulers). Throughout the instructions you will learn not only what these features do
but how to manipulate them to make your document how you want. Also note that this will cater to the
user with the most basic understanding of how Microsoft Word processing.

Process Description
The following tabs will be used throughout the instructions: Page Layout and View. You can find
these tabs at the top of your program when you open a word document. Below are some definitions of
the terms we will be using.
Margins- The blank space bordering the written or printed area on a page
Tab White space added using the Tab key
Indents white space added at the first line of the paragraph or each line.
Ruler tool to set all indentations and see measurements on a document
Materials
To be able to follow these instructions you will need the following materials: A computer (Either
a Laptop or a Desktop with a Monitor and mouse and keyboard) and Microsoft Office 2013.

Margins
1. Open Microsoft Word 2013.



2. Start a new document

3. Click on the page layout tab at the top of the application

4. The margins option is on the far left hand side

5. Depending on the document you may want different size
6. You can select from preset measurements or create your own by clicking custom margins option
at the very bottom of the list
7. If you select custom margins, click the amount of white space you would like and click Ok
