GSM BASICS
Introduction
BSNL being a service and network provider has to interface with other Network.
Global Switching for Mobile (GSM) is one such network to which our
PSTN/ISDN is interconnected with Private Mobile Operators Network.BSNL is
already programming for introduction of GSM in their network with a Pilot Project
and also one tender for 1.5 million line is in offering.In such a scenario it will be
useful for the officers of the BSNL to familiarise themselves with fundamental
concepts of GSM. Keping this in view, this this course on GSM Basics has been
designed.This course will give adequate knowledge and skills to the participants to
understand the basic technology of Cellular Mobile system.Many of the lectures in
this training are being taken by DE(GSM), who has been trained in GSM/36 under
UNDP fellowship No. IND/96-002.
Participants Learning Objectives
At the end of the course the participants will be able to understand

The building blocks of GSM in general
Various interfaces used in GSM architecture
Call & Mobility Management
GSM Network Planning
BSNL Plan for GSM implementation

Course Length
One week ,full time from 0900 to 1730 hrs.
Target Population
BSNL/MTNL officers in the grade of DEs and above having switching and /or
Transmission back ground.
