The earliest writing for which there is any evidence is the cuneiform marked on clay
tablets about 5000 years ago.
Picture-writing: Pictograms
Pictures that represent particular images in a consistent way
Everyone uses a similar form to convey a roughly similar message
A conventional relationship exists between the symbol and its interpretation
I dea-writing: Ideograms
The symbol extends and begins to be used to refer to abstract notions too

Word-writing: Logograms
