A personal perspective on Existentialism

Often times a childs teacher is the adult whom they spend the most time
interacting with. For close to 7 hours a day, five days a week, 9 months a year, one
persontheir teacher, is forming the young childs brain. With this in mind we
cannot simply overlook the fact that children learn more than math and English,
they learn what is socially acceptable from their teachers. Thats why I believe that
the best philosophy of education is Existentialism. I believe that teachers should
make it a top priority to teach the whole child rather than simply the curriculum.
From personal experience, and through observation of young children it is
my understanding that children learn best when they are able to make choices
about their learning. Keeping this in mind I believe that teaching should offer
students even at a young age, a freedom to making choices about their learning.
Involving students in the curriculum excites them, which in turn allows the students
to take pride in their learning.
Giving children a voice in the classroom allows them all to grow as individual.
Allowing some aspects in the classroom to be taken with a democratic approach
gives students the opportunity to grow as peers. Teachers are in charge of the
growth and development of eachwhich must never be taken lightly.
