This is a Vendor Managed Inventory concept, which

would treat the end customer data as its input

By means of this, Barilla would be in a position to
determine when and what to ship to its distributors
This can happen when the distributors would
simultaneously provide the Point of Sale (PoS) data of
various SKUs of Barilla
Yes, JITD should be implemented as it has the following
advantages:

Substantial reduction in the
cost of manufacturing
The visibility of Supply
Chain increases across its
span
Barilla would hold a higher
bargaining power over its
distributors
The inventory cycle time
will reduce owing to
planned production
Due to faster response from
the manufacturers, the refill
time decreases
Service level increases
without increase in cost to
the distributors
Since delivery of goods is
made when theres demand,
inventory level reduces,
hence inventory carrying
cost also reduces
BENEFITS TO MANUFACTURER BENEFITS TO DISTRIBUTORS
