Second Grade October News

September 30, 2014

Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a restful weekend! September was a great month. We have
been working so hard in second grade, learning the rules and routines and digging into the
curriculum. I am proud of this group! Last week I was able to benchmark reading test
almost all of the students and I will finish up this week. I will send home your childs
reading level by the end of this week. The goal is to begin second grade reading at a level
J and end the year at a level M. Please encourage your child to read out loud to you each
night for a minimum of 15 minutes. October is a busy month; here a few reminders as we
look forward to the new month:
Octobers Character Education Trait is Responsibility. We will be practicing
responsibility in second grade by turning in our homework and recording our reading
in our nightly reading log.
Octobers Environmental Science Theme is Land Use. We will be exploring our 62
acres right here on campus and learning about many types of landforms.
Please turn in September reading calendar and behavior calendars on Wednesday,
October 1.
Count day is Wednesday, October 1 and its a free no uniform day!
Mobile Dentist will be on campus October 2 & 3.
Thursday, October 2 is our first family night of the year! Please join us at 5:30 for
dinner, face painting, pumpkin painting, hayrides, and more!
Monday, October 13 is our field trip to FMG! Thank you to the people who
volunteered to chaperone. I will contact you this week regarding the trip.
Background checks must be on file in order for you to attend the trip; they are
good for one school year.
October 16 & 20 are parent teacher conferences look for sign-ups to come home
soon. When you indicate your time preference we will also use those times/days for
winter and spring conferences. We can make adjustments if needed.
Picture re-take is October 30.
