0. 7- 1. 0 mm a nd 40 mm in t he flow di-
rect i on. Car e was t aken t o specify equal-sized
and r egul ar cells close t o walls, since t hi s hel ps
t o avoi d numeri cal pr obl ems in model l i ng
close-to-wall effects. The model l i ng assumpt i ons
concer ni ng t he boundar y condi t i ons, fluid pr op-
ert i es and bubbl e di amet er were t he same as
for t he one- r od t est section. To make t he pr ob-
lem sol vabl e on a mid-size computer+ a space-
mar chi ng scheme was used, and t he sol ut i on
was f ound in I m l ong part s, as shown i n
Fig. 5. Af t er sol vi ng t he pr obl em in t he first

The fol l owi ng wor ki ng condi t i ons were used
in t est sect i on FT-6: wat er mass flux, 1112 kg
m -2 s - ' ; inlet subcool i ng, 3.5 K; system pres-
sure, 49.7 bar, heat flux, 540 kW m -2. Com-
