Competition venue

The Phuket City Municipal Stadium at Saphan Hin will be the


venue for the 16th World Pencak Silat Championship 2015
from January 7th to 17th. The stadium has 4,000 seats, high
technology systems, security and is located in a public park
in Phuket Town. The world championship has two categories;
Match and Artistic. The event will start with an opening cer
emony at 7pm on 10 January and conclude with a closing
ceremony on January 16, 2015.

Pencak Silat Championship 2015 in Phuket, Thailand.
We firmly hope the world class competition will entertain people and upgrade Thailand's sport sector in addition to promoting
tourism in Phuket and Thailand.

What is Pencak Silat ?

Pencak Silat is an Asian fighting art developed hundreds of


years ago in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. It is originally
martial art of Indonesia. The martial art is also practiced
in the Thai southern border provinces of Pattani, Yala and
Narathiwat. Pencak Silat is one of the world's top ten most
lethal styles of fighting. In the past, a long knife called a "keris"
and a long stick would be used in fighting but these are now
used only in the artistic category competition. Pencak Silat
was introduced in world championship, Indonesia in 1982
for the first time and also in Thailand National Competition
in 1987.

Thai Pencak Silat athletes have brought prestige to their coun-

try by winning a total of 23 gold, 22 silver and 29 bronze


medals in the following international competitions:
- 6th World Pencak Silat Championship 1990 in the Netherlands
- 7th World Pencak Silat Championship 1992 in Indonesia
- 8th World Pencak Silat Championship 1994 in Hat Yai, Thailand
- 1st Asia Pacific Pencak Silat Championship 2002 in Singapore
- 11th World Pencak Silat Championship 2002 in Malaysia
- 12th World Pencak Silat Championship 2004 in Singapore
- 2nd Asia Pacific Pencak Silat Competition 2003 in Manila,
Philippines
- 27th Sea Games 2013 in Myanmar
