European Union

1. What is it?
The European Union is a union of 28 members (countries) in Europe with similar economic and
political systems. They all work together especially in times of crisis.

Belgium. They were some of the founders who started this union.

Currently, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France and a few others are all part of the
Union.

Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland are not part of the Union.
5. What does it do?
It is a partnership between the countries of Europe that help each other through conflicts of
economic and political struggles.

There is a council of the European Union that helps makes decisions and it has a parliament
government.

Some in the UK are pro-European because they believe it strongly benefits countries all
across Europe.

Some in the UK are Eurosceptics because they think it may not always work and some
countries are excluded.

Euro is the currency that 17 out of the 28 members use for money.

The EU has growth since its birth with more and more countries joining. Also, it has grown
because of the accomplishments it has achieved.

The top five aims of the EU are trade, movement, to give justice/freedom, equality, and a
more environmentally friendly continent.
