What is VPN?

VPN or Virtual Private Network is a type of private

network that runs over the public network and try to
provide the secure features as a leased line. It provides the
following features to become a secure connection.
Privacy
Authentication
Data Integrity
Access Control



How it is work?
It uses some authentication algorithm to authenticate
the source and destination addresses to be sure.

It uses some encryption algorithm to encrypt the
original data packet with some key. And also put new IP
header and VPN header to the encrypted packet.

Finally it decrypt the received packet to the original
packet with some key.

What is purpose?
It uses for variety of purposes but there is three
primary reasons for building an Internet VPN today.

Extranet based VPN
Remote Access VPN
