The Job Growth in Canada 2035

The popular notion that Albertas oil sands industry was making it difficult for companies across
the country to compete for workers and profits enveloped the national debate for much of 2012. But it
didnt stand up to the facts.
The governments of Ontario and Quebec, to their credit, have released an assessment of exactly
how many people are employed in those two provinces as a result of the oil sands. The numbers are
staggering. The oil and gas industry is expected to create roughly 900,000 jobs by 2035, about 126,000
of which will be in provinces outside of Alberta, if future forecasts prove accurate. Over the next 25
years, Ontario companies alone are expected to make $36 billion as a direct result of the oil sands,
according to the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. Alberta, for its part, is expected to invest
$117 billion in supplies from other Canadian provinces. It is a sizable opportunity when you are talking
about the needs of the oil sands industry, says Ron Subramanian, director of special projects at the
Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association (CME).
The Oil and Gas Industry Is Expected To Create roughly 900,000 jobs by 2035.
