SUSPENSE NOTES

****Suspense is a building tension that makes readers want to keep

reading.****
How do authors create suspense?
1. Telling the reader something is going to happen (foreshadowing).
2. The characters are worrying or anxious about something.
3. The characters have dreams/a vision or get a bad sign about something.
4. The setting (weather, time of day, place).
5. Using repetition to slow down the reader from finding out what happens
next.
6. Using imagery (descriptions) to describe the scene which keeps the
reader from knowing what happens.
