BI-ANNUAL MEETING 29 Aug 2014

Minutes


Meeting called to order at 08:30. Attendees included Sheila Niedlinger, Gregg Miles, Justin
Keith, Catherine Olivier, Marti Smith, Michelle Gonzales, Lisa Phillips, Sabrina Heller,
Michelle Taylor, Regina Blewett, Sayra Harris, Kim Sheffield, Becky Alford, Caroline
Morgan, Rhonda Shearouse and Helen Ward. Angie Roberts
1. Google Apps for Education. Training. (Gregg, Justin, Jeff)
a. P: drive, H: drive, S: drive. Not accessible from Chromebooks or Linux machines; direct
teachers to use Google Drive instead.
b. If using USB connected Headset/microphones you will need to select the USB
microphone device.
c. Mr. Miles and Mr. Keith presented a great presentation on Chromebooks and Google
Drive.
2. Browsers. Use what browser works: Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox
3. Destiny Upgrade. Discussion. (All)
. Barcode scanning issues discussed. Recommendation is to scan into notepad or Word
to verify scans are being performed correctly.
a. Bonk occurring when limit is reached (e.g. two book limit, child checks out two
books and it alerts that limit has reached).
b. Patron issues were discussed; students showing up in areas they should not be. Holly
requested more information and she will work with SIF support on the issues. Submit a
Service Request with as much detail as possible for any of these issues.
c. How long should a record of fines be kept? Throughout the student career? Hold
students accountable. Do not let them check out. Some schools take away other privileges.
d. SEHS has added username and password in Destiny to allow for book reviews.
4. Password Reset Tools.
. Have teacher look up student user name. Sometimes teachers are finding the incorrect
username (the one they are needing may end in 1 as their may be more than one student
with the same login. Also, nicknames will not yield the desired result; it must be the
students given name. Also, begin with the s. If no middle name, their will be no second
initial.
a. Verify correct student name
b. Use Find method. Do not scroll though lists looking.
c. Password Self Service. Part of the SysAid Portal. Demonstrated tool that will soon be
made available to teachers. Documentation is still in development.

. Elementary schools can now log in to view what High Schools are watching
9. Media Festival.

b. There may be changes to local / state
10. Network upgrade. Wireless system will continue to improve to support more devices (like
Chromebooks)
. Wireless network covers all school buildings
a. Jeff gave demo on how wireless is set up in two schools: ECMS and Guyton
b. Three types of wireless access points: $70, $300, $340 - more expensive - more
coverage
c. The district is applying for a state grant to increase the wireless
d. Bandwidth was also increased in district
e. iREAD
11. ECSD Technology Proficiency Program Mandatory, but not Mandatory!?!
12. Internet Safety Lesson Plans. Teachers who were identified by Instructional Supervisor
at each school should be completing the verification survey as proof students have
received instruction.
13. Other Items.
. Quiz Bowl -
i. Sarah Harris at Sandhill competed in 2013-14 Quiz Bowl last year
ii. SEHS will (try to) compete this year with media Book Club.

b. Media Technology Enhanced Needs -
i. Jeff will look into possible funds to media centers for additional
technology
purchases
c. Surplus pickups needed
i. Crystal has sent out information
ii. Do not surplus anything that is still usable such as old computers that
can be reimaged as Linux resource computers
d. EffTech Day is now a System Wide Professional Development Day - March
17th
i. Fall Holiday? on Oct 17th will still be utilized as a training day.
