There is no doubt that Russias transition economy needs a lot of changes and innovation. The
main reason for our slow progress and inefficiency is corruption. It is so common everywhere, has a
bad effect on incentives and distorts them. Because of that, government policy becomes worse and
people make wrong, ineffective decisions and allocate resources irrationally. If we want to improve
our economy, we have to use different motives to remove corruption. One more point in this
question is Russian international relationships, which are not developed enough. It does not allow
us to learn from foreign experience, which is so useful, especially for statecraft. Furthermore, we
will be given a lot of market opportunities provided that our economy becomes more open.
Another chance to improve our economy is to get rid of big technological gap between Russia and
West countries. We are not as progressive as they are, so we do not have competitive advantages
in product quality. It is clear that ineffective production means more costs to country than an
effective way of creating goods. If we make our technologies more progressive, the Russian
economy will be more effective. So, there are many ways to make Russias economy better, and
everything depends on elaborate politics and government.
