When you think of folk/rock you might think of modern day musicians, but it are started with Bob

Dylan.
Today, many people do not take into consideration how much he contributed to this type of genre. His
songs topped many charts and was presented with many awards for his work. Bob Dylan is a folk and
rock singer, songwriter whos career began in the 1960s. His music founded on social issues and civil
rights.
On May 24, 1941, Bob Dylan was born in Duluth, Minnesota. Although, today, he is known as Bob Dylan
, his birth name was Robert Allen Zimmerman. He went to school in his hometown. During his childhood
years, he became interested in playing music. Naturally, he learned to play the guitar and the
harmonica. While he was in high school, he formed a band called The Golden Chords. He played with
this band until he graduated in 1959. After high school, he began to study at the University of Minnesota
in Minneapolese. During his college years he was still very involved with music. He started to listen to
folk music. This lead him to perform in a coffee house. He used the name Dylan when he performed
because of his favorite poet, Dylan Thomas.
As he started performing in the coffee houses, he realized he had bigger dreams than college,. In the
1960, he dropped out and moved to New York to become a musician. The next year, he got his first
recording contract with Colombia Records. The album was called Bob Dylan. For his first album, he did
not have any original songs, he only had traditional folk songs. His next album was considered to make
him legendary. The album is called, Free Wheelin Bob Dylan. It was masterpiece for folk music in this
time. Songs like, A Hard Rains a-gonna Fall, Dont think twice it all night , and Blowin in the wind,
were believed to be the peak of his career.
His next album, The time they are a changing made it clear that Bob Dylan was a songwriter from the
60s. He wrote about the protest movement. Joan Baez was Dylans girlfriend that lasted about two
years. During those years, Dylan wrote her best known songs. She even introduced him to thousands of
fans through her concerts. After they broke up in 1964 he schedule about 200 concerts annually. He had
become tired of his role as the folk writer of the protest movement. That same year everyone saw a new
side of him. Bob Dylan started writing more personal music.
The next album he released was a huge hit. Today, it is still considered the greatest rock album of all
time. The title of the album is Blonde on Blonde. His major hits Stuck inside of mobile with Memphis
blues. This song might have been inspired by a motor accident he was in. While he was recovering from
his fatal accident, he met his wife, Sara. They had four children. Jacob Dylan, Bob Dylans youngest son,
Followed in his fathers footsteps and is a lead singer of the band The Wallflowers.

His come back album was "John Wesly Harding." this gave him another chance in the music world. It
showed a new side of Bob Dylan because people now knew him as just a songwriter. "Nashville Skyline"
showcased the country side of Bob Dylan. This specific album was not successful but it gave him a new
fan base. Because that album was not successful he explored a new career field. In 1971, he wrote a
book called "Tarantula." That same year he wrote the music for the movie "Pat Garrett and Billy the
Kid." This movie was a complete failure. Although a song in the movie "Knockin on Heavens Door"
became a huge hit all over America.

1973 was a big year for him and his band because they went on their first full our in seven years. This
tour boosted his confidence and he started to regain his name in the music world. This year was good
for him in his music but not for his personal life. Him and his wife separated and this was the inspiration
for his next album. He titles this album "Blood on the Tracks." This album showed how he was feeling
inside and was the most personal album he released yet. This is Bob Dylan's greatest album to this date.
During the tour he released the album "Desire". The most successful song from this album was
"Hurricane".
