State the purpose and aims of the investigation.
Write a statement which identifies what you hope to find out about the issue you are
investigating. This could be a question or set of questions you are seeking the answer
(inquiry questions).
Urban Growth & Decline and Coastal Management are the geographical issues being investigated.
Newcastle is located along the east coast of Australia. The coastland is constantly changing due to the
processes of erosion and deposition. People have made changes to our natural coastland.
The Honeysuckle Urban Renewal Project began in 1992 and has transformed 4km of harbour foreshore
in Newcastle from disused industrial landuse into residential, commercial and recreational landuse.
The urban processes taking place in the area include: Urban Consolidation, Urban Decay, Urban
Renewal and Gentrification.
To identify the coastal and urban geographical processes which have taken place along the Newcastle
coast and harbour foreshore as a result of coastal management actions and the Honeysuckle Urban
Renewal Project.

Inquiry Questions:
What coastal geographical processes and coastal management actions are evident in the field?
What urban geographical processes are evident in the field?
What are some impacts of these processes and actions?
