Drone strikes kill 17 in NWA during Eid holidays

MIRANSHAH: The Central Intelligence Agency carried out four drone strikes against
suspected militants in the North Waziristan Agency during the Eidul Azha holidays, killing
17 persons and causing injuries to several others.

Official Pakistani sources requesting anonymity confirmed the drone attacks and casualties. They
said the missile strikes took place in the forested Shawal Valley and Dattakhel area.The sources
said that four hideouts of the militants were targeted in separate attacks in which 17 persons were
killed and several others were injured.

Ten persons were killed in two attacks in the Shawal area on Sunday and Monday, a local
tribesman said.Reports said the house of a Taliban militant, Habib, was the target of one of the
drone strikes.

Official sources said on Tuesday the unmanned aircraft first targeted a place in Kond Ghar in
North Waziristan along the border with South Waziristan. Two missiles were fired from the
drone which hit a house, killing four persons and injuring eight others, the sources said.

In the second attack, the sources said, three persons were killed when missiles hit a house in the
Dattakhel Tehsil.The spike in the drone strikes was such that four attacks took place in three
days. The first three missile strikes were carried out in just 24 hours. The latest drone attacks
raised the tally of strikes this year to 13.The identity of those killed couldnt be ascertained. The
claims about the casualties also could not be confirmed from independent sources.
