HAZARSKI RENIK BY MILORAD PAVI

AS A HISOTRIORGRAPHIC METAFICTION
Summary
The paper discusses the meaning of history as a scientific discipline and
its poetical functionality in postmodernist novel Hazarski renik by Milorad Pavi. By connecting historiography and mechanism of powers and by comparing
historical aspects of narration and narrative aspects of history, we believe that
both history and fiction reach similar narrative techniques which paradoxically
unveil fictionality of historical discourse. Historiographic metafiction is singled
out as a suitable genre for realisation of destabilisation of the historical narrative. By ironization and parody of the historical recording of facts, by documentary technique and research procedures, and by focalisation of history, Hazarski
renik has been proved to be a novel with a suspicion in stability and credibility
of the official history.
