Andean Condor

Introduction
The Andean Condor is a South American bird. Its scientific name is Vultur
gryphus. This vulture is one of the worlds most adept aerial birds and its
conservation status is Near Threatened.
Habitat
Condors that live in the
wild, make homes in large
territories. They sit on
branches and rocks and fly
in the sky.





Diet
Condors mostly eat carrion. They have a great sense of smell and can smell
a carcass from kilometres away. A condor has a bald head which allows it to
get things out of a carcass easily because it doesnt have as much volume.
Condors are known to be Natures Recycler because they eat leftovers. In
the wild, Condors travel more than 200 km each day to get food.
Size/Covering
Condors are the largest flying bird, with a wingspan of up to more than 3
metres wide and a weight of up to 15kg. Their nickname is The Giant of the
Skies and a male can reach a height of 1.5 metres.

Condors are quiet and relaxed birds.
Condors live in areas where it is windy so they can skim with the air currents
without using lots of energy. Also to save energy, the Condor rarely flaps its
